BARRY FARBER NAMED TO TALKER’S HEAVIEST HUNDRED OF ALL TIME LIST

Los Angeles, CA -- CRN Digital Talk Radio today announced that legendary radio personality Barry Farber, host of CRN’s daily “The Barry Farber Show” has been ranked number twelve on the “Heavy Hundred of All Time” list by TALKERS MAGAZINE.

"To be included in TALKERS "Heavy Hundred of All Time" can make you feel heavy, indeed,” said Farber. “To be listed so near the top makes me feel, not heavy, but giddy and light enough to float straight skyward."

Celebrating 50 years on the radio this September, Farber launched his radio career in New York in 1960 and began hosting a national talk show on the ABC Radio Network in 1990.  The National Association of Radio Talk Show Hosts named Farber 1991’s “Talk Show Host of the Year”.  In 2002, Farber was listed by Talkers magazine as one of the top ten talk hosts of all time!  An accomplished author and columnist, Farber is a student of 26 languages.

“Barry Farber is the dean of American talk show hosts, said Michael Horn, President and CEO of CRN Digital Talk Radio.  “He hosts the longest running talk show on radio today.  He is a founding father of talk radio, but Barry is still astounding contemporary audiences with his knowledge humor and prose.”

TALKERS MAGAZINE touts itself as the bible of the talk radio industry.  The 20th anniversary edition of the publication ranked the 100 most important radio talk show hosts of all time.  Rankings were based on the industry’s diversity, colorful history, with consideration being given to “courage, effort, impact, longevity, potential, ratings, recognition, revenue, service, talent, uniqueness, as well as historical relevance.”  Other show hosts in the top twenty include, Rush Limbaugh, Howard Stern, Larry King and Sean Hannity.

“The Barry Farber” show airs in over 11 million homes Monday – Friday at 5 p.m. PST on radio stations and cable systems around the country.  For station information or to listen online, visit www.crntalk.com.

A PLUG FOR A COUPLE OF FRIENDS OF MINE.
MIKE HORN AND CLAUDE HALL!!!

Mike Horn is the owner of CRN which stands for Cable Radio Network. You can hear it all over the world. The operation is based in beautiful Sunland, California.

In addition to owning CRN, Mike Horn also does a couple of air-shifts on CRN. File that under the category, "Once a ham, always a ham".

Mike and I have often talked about possibly doing something together there, but the timing has never been right. But this past Monday, on an impulse, Mike asked if I would like to join him on his 4 o'clock show that afternoon. It's a talk show. No topics are off limits and with a smile, my answer was, "Sure!"

This was the first time I had ever been in a studio with Mike and for me, this turned out to be an absolute blast. We talked about the 14th Amendment, Lindsay Lohan, Charlie Sheen, Iraq, the Dodgers, the Angels, he asked me to make predictions on who would be in the next World Series and a whole bunch of other stuff. It was the fastest hour of radio I've ever been a part of. Oh...The World Series predictions? I gave myself an "out" by saying I might change my mind in a few days, but right then, while admitting I was hoping for a miracle performed by the Dodgers, I picked Atlanta and Texas to play in the next World Series.

There's a lot of good programming on CRN. My friend, the actor Robert Conrad has a show as do a number of other friends of mine. If you would like to know more about CRN and how you can listen to this great station, click onto www.crntalk.com

CRN DIGITAL TALK RADIO AND THE ASTOR BROADCAST GROUP PARTNER TO CREATE NEW TALK FORMAT PDF

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 9, 2010

CRN DIGITAL TALK RADIO AND THE ASTOR BROADCAST GROUP PARTNER TO CREATE NEW TALK FORMAT

LOS ANGELES, CA – CRN Digital Talk Radio and the Astor Broadcast Group announced today a new partnership that will flip Astor’s AM properties in the Inland Empire (1510 KSPA AM) and San Diego (1450 AM KFSD) to a new “Southern California Talk” format, set to debut next Monday. The lineup will bring back many Southern California favorites and introduce a few new faces to the landscape.

“I have worked with Art for a long time and he is a true radio pioneer,” said Michael Horn, President and CEO of CRN Digital Talk Radio. “Individually the AM stations have been hard to sell. Our new partnership allows us to package Art’s two AM stations together along with the line-ups also being offered on one of our CRN channels. Together, our three outlets will provide a strong sales story for local and national advertisers alike.”

By taking stand alone stations and pairing them together, Horn and Astor have created their own hybrid cluster that will compete against the large station groups in the area.

Horn, who is acting as program and sales consultant on this venture, created a format that offers much needed variety to the current talk offering in Southern California. The changes will begin next Monday at 3 a.m. with Mancow. At 6 a.m. Laura Ingraham will be heard live. From 9 a.m. – 11 a.m., ‘What’s Cooking Today,’ a lifestyle program featuring celebrity guests will be hosted by Horn, Paul Stern, Jack Roberts and Erik Hines. ‘Talk Back’ will air from 11 a.m. to noon with Chuck Wilder, former co-host with George Putnam. Dr. Laura Schlessinger will air from noon to 3 p.m., followed by Michael Savage in afternoon drive. Rusty Humphries takes the mic from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Following Rusty from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. will be the PM Show with Horn and rotating guest hosts, like actor Robert Conrad and Geoff Edwards. At 10 p.m., Doug McIntyre’s Red-Eye Radio will be heard live for four hours, followed by Barry Farber from 2 a.m. – 3 a.m.

San Diego’s KFSD is scheduled to kick off their talk format on April 1st. That lineup will feature some of the best from the KSPA lineup, in addition to a live feed of Doug Stephan’s Good Day from 3 a.m. – 7 a.m., followed by Dennis Miller live from 7 a.m. – 10 a.m. The “What’s Cookin Today’ Show will run from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. with ‘Talk Back’ from 11 a.m. – noon. Lou Dobbs returns to Southern California, from noon – 3 p.m. and Laura Ingraham will air in afternoon drive.

“The goal of this lineup is to keep tape delayed programming to a minimum,” said Horn. “ We want the listeners to be able to participate with the talent to create the most local feel possible. Budgets are tight and syndicated programming makes sense in that respect, but we chose to include talent based in Southern California. They will be used in custom promotions and will be able to paint a local picture that is not currently part of stations that strictly use syndicated talent.”

“I haven’t been this excited since I flipped BOSS Radio and KORJ to KIK FM Country,” said Astor, President of the Astor Broadcast Group. “This partnership highlights all of our strengths. We are bringing back some great talk talent to Southern California and creating a lucrative environment for advertisers.”
