Westin Ka’anapali’s Fall Pig Roast Benefiting 4-H

Westin Ka’anapali’s Fall Pig Roast Benefiting 4-H

Celebrate the arrival of Fall with an Autumn Pig Roast Prix Fixe Dinner at Pulehu, an Italian Grill. Scheduled this Friday, October 10, the delectable four-course prix-fixe menu features livestock raised locally by student Makayla (Kayla) Alexander of Lahainaluna High School under the 4-H Program in Maui County. An annual supporter of this youth development program, The Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas once again sent their culinary team to bid successfully at this year’s 4-H Live Auction held late summer in Makawao, Upcountry Maui.

According to resort director of food & beverage Brandon Maeda, the resort is a firm believer of sustainability and supports the local community through various initiatives that includes local ranching and farming. “The 4-H program provides Maui youths a valuable opportunity to raise their livestock and learn the importance of being able to develop sustainable farming,” elaborated Maeda. This non-formal education includes real hands-on projects and demonstrations, leadership development and personal economics. With the support of her family and 4-H, Kayla was most proud of her accomplishment and partnering the resort in serving the finest meat.

As in the past, resort executive sous chef Wes Holder has designed a delicious menu with an Italian twist be presented at the award-winning Pulehu, an Italian Grill. Featuring Char Siu Pork Belly Sliders as the first course, the crispy pork belly is served with spicy Chinese slaw in taro buns. The second course Fried Coppa di Testa stays true to classic Italian and includes braised head and trotters with dried cherries, mirepoix, cherry mustardo and herb salad. The flavorful twist continues in the Citrus Cured Ham, a third course presenting citrus cured and Kiawe smoked ham with Yukon Gold gnocchi in Emmerthail mornay with garlic kale. Finish off the superb meal with Apple Berry Mini Pie that is made with pork belly crumbles, raspberries and served with Tahitian vanilla bean gelato.

Priced at $65.00++ per person, the dinner also features three of Maui Brewing Company’s finest beers. These include the limited release of Oktoberfest, a delightful seasonal accompaniment. The beer is brewed with German Pilsner, Munich and Vienna malts for a rich but smooth maltiness, and spiced with herbal and floral German Tettnang and Saaz hops. Other beer accompaniments include Big Swell IPA with aromatic citrus scents and a touch of caramel and Bikini Blonde.
