McRib, all hype, no flavor?

The much awaited McRib sandwich has come to immense popularity since its introduction to the McDonald’s menu in 1981. Having never completely understood why it has received such a cult-like following, it’s taken me some thirty years and a bottle of Zin to give it a try. If you’ve never heard of it before, it’s essentially a pork patty covered with BBQ sauce and topped with pickles and onions (in this case ordered without). I found the sandwich to be a good balance between sweet and tangy. The pork patty was spongy and juicy and along with the sauce left me in need of napkins. Overall, I can’t say that it’s exactly worth all of the hype surrounding it, but it is¬†definitely¬†a great tasting sandwich that’s worth trying out at least once as it’s only available for a limited time.
